Central Louisiana, the heart and crossroads of Louisiana Conference U.M.W. is home to the Alexandria District and the location for the Louisiana Conference Center for Church Renewal. This district is home to historically strong and daring women in mission. Alexandria offers ankle support for United Methodist Women and provides a central location where United Methodist Women activities can be held. At the heel and sole of the boot are Lake Charles and Acadiana Districts. These districts know the celebration of life - the “joie de vivre” of Louisiana Conference United Methodist Women Mission. Charm, Humility, Fun, Love, and Laughter - the message of mission in the Cajun south. This is the Soul of Mission. From the bayou to the big city, mission is alive and well. The Acadiana District is the location for three nationally registered mission projects: Dulac Community Center, P.O. Box 349, Dulac, LA 70353 providing services as after school tutoring, computer education, Head Start, arts & craft, and VIM-Volunteer in Mission services; MacDonell United Methodist Children Services, 8326 Main St., Houma, LA 70360 providing Therapeutic residential treatment for children and adolescents; and historic Sager-Brown/UMCOR Depot, 101 Sager Brown Road, Baldwin, LA 70514. Sager-Brown, closed in the 1970's, rose again out of the devastation of hurricane Andrew in 1992 like a Mission Phoenix out of the bayou to find new life and purpose as headquarters for disaster relief during the storm and later as the site for UMCOR Depot. Baton Rouge District is the location for the boot’s rich upper leather in South Central Louisiana. It is the location for historic plantation homes along and near the great Mississippi River, named for the state’s Capitol city, and is the historic heart of mission education and social action. New Orleans and North Shore provide room to stretch and wiggle our toes and provide the best toe support for kicking mission into action in the Big City. The Great South East is home to mission parades, festivals, St. Mark’s Community Center and “all that Jazz.” St. Mark’s Community Center located in the historic Treme neighborhood has a rich history as a community center serving the needs of women, children, and youth. Today it serves the Greater New Orleans community and surrounding areas by providing services such as day care programs, Street Academy for high risk public school students, Treme Corner Café youth run restaurant, and the Jazz project. This Louisiana Conference United Methodist Women boot is made for mission and that’s just what we do. © 2000 Rita M. Parham 2/14/2000

Accomplishments and Celebration We convened our 28th Annual Meeting on September 14, 2001 at St. Timothy on the North Shore United Methodist Church in Mandeville, Louisiana to celebrate the accomplishments of our 9,322+ grassroots members, located in 265 local units across the nine districts of the conference, who actively engaged in fulfilling the mission of Christ and the Church through a multiplicity of creative programs, projects, and activities in service to women, youth, children, and others. We also rejoice for the dedication of hundreds of women who engaged in mission studies at the local, district, and conference levels along with a strong individual reading program to strengthen their personal faith and foster growth in the Christian faith. We express thanks to God for the women at each level of the United Methodist Women organization who have answered God’s call and accepted the awesome responsibility of leadership. They need ongoing prayers and encouragement. Vision and Goals
