Igniting Ministry is a national campaign designed to increase awareness of The United Methodist Church, to give non-members a positive feeling and willingness to visit a United Methodist church, and to renew a sense of commitment among United Methodists. |
Three times a year (start of school, advent, lent) , television ads will be run nationally on cable channels. In Louisiana, several bodies have arranged to run television ads on our in-state television channels. You will be able to benefit from this exposure even though your church is not running the ads.
Even if you cannot to run your own television ads, there are radio and newspaper ads that you may be able to run in your local area. Printed material (bulletin covers, flyers, etc.) are available so that you can use the theme in your own church area. For the 2000-2004 quadrennium, matching grants - dollar for dollar - were available for television ads only. Beginning in 2005, matching grants have also been available for radio, outdoor, and cinema ads as well. |

While the media will serve to spread the word about United Methodism, you need to educate your congregation in inviting and welcoming visitors. The media might encourage someone to visit, but the people and atmosphere they find in your church may make the difference in a single visit or a new member.
Please remember that in all of this, our goal is not to increase the numbers on our church rolls. Our goal is to share the Good News of Jesus Christ to the world around us. |
